Touring Cars

Im quite interested in touring car racing and wondered if there was a chance of a trip to watch some racing when it starts up again?

I've never really followed touring cars, but what I've seen on tv looks really interesting. We could certainly look at running a trip to an event. What sort of thing? BTCC? WTCC?

As an aside, that Andy Priaulx has never won Sports Personality of the Year is a travesty.

BTCC would be both cheaper and easier, with more dates to choose from at some great tracks. You should watch it more, its much better to watch than F1, though the reverse grid rule still seems irish to me, ok its a nice principle, but the way its done makes no sense.

Is it on ITV or ITV4? If its on ITV, I'll tune in. We haven't got ITV4.

Deffiantely BTCC, im not sure who im going to support next year seeing as Seat arent going to be there and so i think Plato will also move on. I would love to go see some races

ahh i see now. does anyone have any idea if any circuits/companys offer touring car or lower spec racing for anyone?

You mean arrive-and-drive? Like a track day but with a bit of a race?

there are a few series you can enter, though most require you to buy a car, such as the mini racing series, radical sportscars, tiger sportscars, or if you want to build your own you could go for the locost approach, as for turn up and race, i don't know other than things like karting, tracks or companies are unlikely to hand over 20 ferraris to be thrashed by drivers of random ability in a race.

Locosts tend to be quite standardised in that respect. If I recall correctly, they're governed to Duratech 1600's for a start. That said, still plenty of leeway for customisation.

well if you want to race it, you have to build it to spec, but the rules do allow you to build your own car, within reason. you can design your own chassis and suspension, but you can't just strap a huge engine to it and expect to be allowed to race.

I'd be up for going to see some touring car racing next season - would be good to see if we can get discounted tickets as its now quite expensive compared to a few years ago.

Yeah. We shall definitely make some enquiries. That said, given the potential group sizes, I would be sceptical with regards discounts. Worth trying though!

I'm not a big fan of the British Bumper Car Championship.

I despise success ballast. Call me a purist, but people should not be penalised for success. I can just about stomach reverse grids in GP2, although reversing the top 8 positions only is odd. I basically disagree with the principle.

The thing with all the reverse grids and the weight ballast is to make it competitive and more exciting. with a season being over so many races you usually get the best driver winning in the end, so how they get to the last race just makes it more interesting
